Honeybees Spotlight: Kellie
By: Hornets.com | September 23, 2011

Hometown: Mobile, Alabama.
Year as a Honeybee: First.

Previous dance experience:

As a child I started dance in a studio, taking ballet and tap class, while also performing for my parents in our living room and carport (if that counts). I took dance for about two years and then decided I’d like to play sports instead. After realizing I was not the best athlete, I went back to dancing at the same studio, taking jazz, ballet, tap, lyrical and hip-hop. I tried out for the company after one year and stayed on it all throughout my junior high and high school years. After high school I went to the University of Southern Mississippi, where I was a Dixie Darling for my first year, and then on the Southern Misses dance team for two years after that. I am now working on my minor in dance at Southern Miss, and am very excited about my first year as a Honeybee!

What I love about being a Honeybee:

Well...since I am a rookie, I’m not completely sure as to what I love most, but so far I have found that this team is a very talented, dedicated and fun group of girls! Although I am just starting to learn the ropes, becoming a Honeybee has already been such an exciting experience. I am most excited about performing at the games and getting to know the team!

What I love about dancing:

I have always had a passion for dancing. I love the limitlessness of it, and the happiness it brings not only to those who do it, but also the audience. Although I do get very nervous before I dance sometimes, I have always loved to perform! Dance is such a good way to express yourself and show your creativity.

What I love about New Orleans:

What is not to love about New Orleans?! I would have to say that my favorite part about it is the food and jazzy atmosphere. I love the way there always seems to be music playing, and everywhere is good to eat (so many choices!) The culture of the city speaks for itself, and everyone is always so welcoming. There is always something new and exciting to do or see...and you never know what to expect!

What I love to do when I’m not performing with the Honeybees:

Since I am still in school, I find myself with very little free time that does not involve studying. But when I do get a break...I love to visit my family, go to the beach, do fun/random activities, be outside, start crafty projects (that sometimes never get finished), spend time with my friends and occasionally sleep!
